Officina Sonora del Bigallo is a recording studio nestled in a location that both inspires and enthralls. Surrounded by some of the most beautiful hills in Tuscany, it is only a few minutes away from Florence’s historical center in the town of Bagno a Ripoli, near the ancient Spedale del Bigallo, from which the studio takes its name. This recording studio in Florence has a breathtaking view of the Brunelleschi Dome, while being encircled by peace, quiet and harmony, provided by the Tuscan hillside. Its indoor spaces have been restored from an ancient barn overlooking the Florentine plains.

Espressione Musicale

Our main objective is to provide a space that harmonically blends creative ideas from various musical and artistic expressions. The studio is divided into five main environments: the large recording room, the reception, the isolation booths, the pre-production suite and two vast indoor and outdoor lounge areas. These spaces have been designed by Donato Masci and Fabrizio Giovannozzi from Studio Sound Service. Officina Sonora Bigallo

Officina Sonora Bigallo is the most fascinating recording studio in Italy, nestled in the middle of Florence’s countryside and equipped with the latest technology. A professional recording studio devised with harmony and attention to details by Studio Sound Service. To imagine, design and create an environment such as this in Italy is the result of a synthesis between a scenic background, innovative equipment, advanced recording techniques and gadgets alongside traditional instruments. The “perfect piano”, the Steinway & Sons Model B is accompanied by a Hammond B3 organ from 1963 and a 1950s Leslie amplifier. From the Isolation booth, you can admire the Brunelleschi Dome, while technicians have the chance to work on 5.1 sound diffusion.

On The Road

On the road between acres of private olive trees, there are two rustic cottages that conceal a hub of technology. This studio represents the cutting edge of international technology while remaining based on our centuries-old culture. Reserving this recording studio in Florence means living and experiencing the artistic creation process at its fullest, and being able to concentrate on your own inspiration while having the finest possible working conditions at hand. Extra services such as personal chef and transfer upon request are available as well.

Reharsal Room

Among the many services of the Studio, OSB can also be a Rehearsal Room. Besides the equipment already described in our website, the Studio has a Presonus Studiolive 24.4.2 mixer, a pair of 625W powered JBL EON 515XT speakers and four 250W Proel Monitors. In OSB you can play in a perfectly equipped space, where a competent and well prepared technical staff will be available for assistance and sound adjustment.

Live Room

The main room in the building is the live room. With a surface of 500 square feet and 17 foot ceilings, a Steinway & Sons Model B piano takes the spotlight. Polycylindrical and straight wooden diffusors are used here, as well as curtains and bass traps. This acoustic treatment, coupled with the structural wood, produces a natural reverberation without any flutter echoes. Variable acoustics panels are built into the walls and allow the RT30 to be modified from .5 to .6 seconds @ 500Hz. A glass window separates the live room from the lounge and bathroom area.

Pre-Production Suite

This is the acoustically treated 70 square foot orchestral composition and pre production suite. It is also wired directly to the control room.

Control Room

La regia è il cuore pulsante dello studio di registrazione. I 24 metri quadri sono stati disegnati e realizzati in base al principio LEDE: Live End Dead End. La parte anteriore risulta essere assorbente, mentre la parte posteriore è diffondente grazie ai pannelli skyline in legno massiccio. Il trattamento acustico unito al sistema di monitoraggio DSP (Digital Signal Processing) determina un’immagine stereo migliorata e un’ottima qualità sonora anche lontani dallo sweet spot. La risposta di frequenza lineare determina un’estrema chiarezza e definizione dei dettagli sonori. È possibile effettuare anche missaggi in 5.1.
